The cave

Our story

In 1952, a group of winegrowers from Rochefort-du-Gard chose to join forces in order to
better promote the terroir of the Côtes du Rhône. On July 12 of that year, they founded the
Vignerons du Castelas cooperative winery under the presidency of Joseph Vache.
This initiative marked the beginning of a remarkable collective journey—rooted in a shared
passion for wine, a spirit of collaboration, and a deep attachment to their village.

Today

Today, 42 producers cultivate 450 hectares of vines, with 47% planted in Grenache Noir and
15% in Syrah. Their vineyards, spread across seven nearby communes—Rochefort-du-Gard, Saze,
Saint-Hilaire-d’Ozilhan, Tavel, Domazan, and Pujaut—benefit from a remarkable diversity of
terroirs, enabling the Vignerons du Castelas to craft wines of richness, character, and balance.

Our Philosophy

“Less wine, but better.” This founding principle, inscribed on the walls of the cellar for
generations, embodies the spirit of the Vignerons du Castelas. It reflects a constant pursuit of
excellence and a rigorous selection process, where quality always takes precedence over quantity,
allowing the full richness and uniqueness of the terroir to shine through in every bottle.
